Spain kicks off Holy

Rtve launches dedicated channel for holy week
Beyond religious observance, Holy Week holds deep cultural significance for many in Spain. RTVE Play has responded with RTVE Procesiones, a linear channel dedicated to broadcasting events from various locations, including Palencia, Mérida, Burgos, Medina del Campo, and Málaga. The schedule includes notable processions such as the Veracruz and Santo Sepulcro in Palencia, and the Santo Encuentro in Burgos.
The channel isn't limited to Spain. Viewers can also witness events from the Vatican, including the Via Crucis and Pope Leo XIV's Urbi et Orbi blessing. This expansive offering complements RTVE's broader programming on its TDT channels, La 1 and La 2, which will feature films and children's content during the holiday break.
RTVE is also showcasing regional traditions, including the Empalaos of Extremadura, the Tamborrada of Hellín, and the Tobarra celebration in Castilla-La Mancha. Classic films like The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, and Pompeii will be broadcast on La 1, while La 2 will air The Sacred Robe.
For families, the Disney channel on Clan will feature extended programming hours and new episodes of popular shows like Bluey and Peppa Pig. Throughout the week, Team Total Curiosity will run, followed by family movie sessions featuring titles such as Shrek and Hotel Transylvania. RTVE Procesiones remains the central hub for comprehensive Holy Week coverage, accessible via the RTVE Play website and mobile apps.
The sheer scale of RTVE's coverage underscores the enduring importance of Holy Week, a tradition that transcends religious boundaries and resonates deeply within Spanish society. It's a cultural touchstone, and RTVE is ensuring its story is told—and seen—across the country.
