Verizon deploys portable 5g network for fox's 'extracted' reality tv show

FOX's reality TV show 'Extracted' has just wrapped up its second season in the Canadian wilderness. The show's unique format, where 12 participants are dropped in remote areas and their family members can track their progress through live feeds, presented a major connectivity challenge for the production team.

Verizon steps in with private 5g solution

To overcome the obstacles of limited wireless coverage, Verizon set up a portable private 5G network spanning across the four-square-mile filming location.

The network provided a fast, secure, and reliable connection for the 25 video feeds and 20 communication devices used by the crew. This ensured smooth transmission of footage and real-time data without delays or interruptions.

Verizon also tested its Edge AI platform to streamline post-production. The system utilized computer vision to automatically identify clips featuring contestants, adding timestamps and summaries. This saved hours of manual editing time for the production team.

In addition, Verizon developed a live data API that tracked the participants and camera crews in real-time on a map. This allowed the director to monitor their locations, even from miles away, giving them greater control over the filming process.

This collaboration demonstrates Verizon's evolving role beyond traditional telecommunications. The company is now exploring opportunities in areas like media production and AI, showing the broader scope of its capabilities and commitment to innovation.
