Airdrop arrives on more android devices, including xiaomi's latest flagship

Interoperability between iOS and Android smartphones has never been a top priority for manufacturers. However, that's slowly changing after Google started supporting Apple's AirDrop through Quick Share last year. Now, Xiaomi is the latest to join the fold with a software update that adds Quick Share with AirDrop support.

Xiomi's hyperos 3 update includes airdrop capability

The feature is part of Xiaomi's HyperOS 3 update, which is based on Android 16. While the company has only highlighted the recently announced Xiaomi 17T Pro as a supported device, the update should also reach other HyperOS 3 handsets.

This marks another step forward in enabling cross-platform file sharing between Apple and Android devices. The feature first appeared on Google's Pixel 10 lineup, before rolling out to Samsung's Galaxy S26 series and subsequently to the S25 and S24 flagships from the Korean tech giant. Oppo's Find X9 Ultra and Vivo's X300 Ultra are also among the supported smartphones.

However, not all Android users will be able to enjoy AirDrop's convenience. Owners of the Galaxy S23, for instance, won't be getting the feature, despite the recent One UI 8.5 update. There's also an anomaly in the list of supported devices, with the Pixel 8a making the cut, while its Pixel 8 siblings are left out.

Reaction to the news has been mixed, with some users expressing relief that they can now ditch third-party file-sharing apps.
