Apple is reportedly preparing to overhaul its entire Mac and MacBook lineup, with a significant influx of new models slated for release over the next several years, according to a new Bloomberg report from Mark Gurman. The update, expected to begin before the end of 2027, promises a substantial shift in the company’s desktop and laptop strategy.
Entry-Level MacBook Pro and iMacs Lead the Charge
The initial wave of releases will likely include a 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro featuring the M6 chip, alongside two new iMac models – a long-overdue refresh for the aging design. Gurman suggests the laptop will retain its existing form factor, but will incorporate the new processor, while the iMac is due for its first update in almost two years.
Rumors of OLED Displays and M5 Pro/Max Power
Further down the line, rumors point to the potential introduction of MacBook Pro models equipped with OLED displays, tentatively planned for release later this year or early next year. These machines are expected to be powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, with macOS 27.1 testing underway. The upgrade also extends to the Mac mini and Mac Studio, which will receive the M5 Pro and M5 Ultra chips respectively.

However, Apple’s plans are contingent on the availability of memory supplies. A new Mac mini with M5 Pro and M6 chips, as well as a Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips, are in development, but their specific configurations remain subject to external factors. Looking further ahead, Apple is reportedly developing an iMac with an OLED display, mirroring the technology slated for the high-end MacBook Pro and the upcoming iPad mini. The MacBook Neo 2, already a successful model, is also anticipated to receive a significant upgrade, potentially leveraging the performance gains of its predecessor.

Early user feedback on the MacBook Neo has been largely positive, with many users finding it surprisingly capable despite its relatively low price point. Despite this success, Apple’s recent price increases have raised concerns among consumers, and some anticipate further hikes with the new models. The base versions of the MacBook Air and MacBook Neo are particularly vulnerable to price increases, which could limit accessibility for many users.
