Google Pixel 11 Pro: The Matte Black Finish is Stunning

I have spent the last few days using the compact Pixel 11 Pro, and I have to admit it: I didn’t expect to like this phone this much. The design hasn’t changed much, but what has changed is that I was using the Obsidian colorway. This black finish is a muted black that is closer to a dark gray than to inky black, especially when you use it outdoors. The most notable thing about it is that you get an incredibly smooth, matte finish. If you weren’t a fan of the glitzy, shiny look of previous Pixels, the new Obsidian on the Pixel 11 Pro will feel much better. It’s toned down, subtle.

Design and Build

The Pixel 11 Pro is a 6.3-inch phone, the same screen size as the iPhone 17 Pro and Galaxy S26; aka, this is what goes for a compact phone in 2026. The 11 Pro is not the thinnest or lightest phone around, with a weight of 204 grams and 8.4mm of thickness. It’s nearly 20% heavier and thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy S26. I wouldn’t count this as some sort of an issue, though. It just has a more substantial feel in the hand.
