Lg unveils hybrid ecall for enhanced vehicle safety

LG Electronics has taken a step ahead of the European Union's mandatory NG eCall standard for new vehicles in 2027, introducing a hybrid emergency calling system. The Hybrid eCall, as the Korean tech giant calls it, is designed to work seamlessly across various networks, including 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G.

Ng ecall's limitations exposed

By 2027, all new vehicles sold in the EU will need to be compatible with the NG eCall system, which currently relies on 4G and 5G networks for faster data transmission. However, this poses a challenge in areas with poor or non-existent 4G/5G coverage, leaving vehicles stranded without a reliable emergency response system.

LG's Hybrid eCall addresses this issue by attempting a 5G connection first, before seamlessly switching to 4G, 3G, or even 2G if necessary, ensuring the critical safety data reaches the nearest emergency services center.
