Oneplus's us exit leaves americans with subpar options
OnePlus is shutting down operations in the US, UK, and EU as early as April 2026, leaving American consumers with limited choices in the smartphone market.

Stagnant innovation due to duopoly
The American smartphone market has been dominated by Apple and Samsung for years, and the latest sales data proves it. In the first three weeks of availability, the Galaxy S26 Ultra accounted for 71% of Galaxy S26 family sales, and the iPhone 17e generated 15% higher demand than its predecessor.
This duopoly has led to stagnant innovation in the US market. Devices like the OnePlus Nord CE6, launched in India with a massive 9,000mAh battery, 144Hz refresh rate, and dual-chip Technology, are unlikely to be available in the US.
OnePlus's exit highlights the consequences of a market controlled by just two players. The company's affordable, feature-packed phones are instead being released in countries like India, where competition is fiercer.
While most Americans will be satisfied with what Apple and Samsung offer, the lack of choice is problematic. It prevents consumers from having access to cutting-edge Technology and forces them to tolerate slower charging speeds and modest battery upgrades.
As the industry moves forward with larger batteries and faster charging, American buyers are being left behind due to the dominance of the duopoly.
