Pixel 11 pro leak exposes google's design paralysis
The first CAD-based renders of Google's Pixel 11 Pro have landed, and they read like a confession: the search giant is frozen in place while rivals sprint ahead.
Android Headlines' leaked schematics show a handset that is, to the tenth of a millimetre, the twin of last year's Pixel 10 Pro. The camera bar keeps its matte-black island, the 6.3-inch AMOLED panel refuses to grow, and the chassis shrinks by an imperceptible 0.1 mm. In an industry where Apple just flipped the iPhone 17 Pro to a horizontal camera array and Samsung is experimenting with rollable screens, Google's idea of progress is matching the paint colour around the flash module.
The cost of standing still
Inside, the story is equally cautious. The only locked-in upgrade is a Tensor G6 SoC, still home-brewed by Google and—if the grapevine is right—pushed to TSMC's 2 nm node. That node is the same one Apple's A20 Pro and Samsung's Exynos 2600 are eyeing for 2025, erasing any process advantage before it exists. Worse, supply-chain chatter points to a downgrade: 12 GB of RAM instead of the Pixel 10 Pro's 16 GB, a penny-pinching move to keep the $999 sticker intact.
Face unlock may return, and a MediaTek modem could replace Samsung's silicon, but these are footnotes, not headlines. When your biggest gamble is swapping one supplier's radio for another's, you are not innovating—you are hedging.
Why google is playing dead
The smartphone market is bleeding; shipments fell 8 % last quarter and Chinese brands are undercutting flagships by half. Google marketing can trumpet AI tricks, yet consumers vote with their eyes first. A phone that looks identical to its predecessor is a phone that stays on the shelf.
Apple understood this and shattered its own design language after six years. Google, meanwhile, is recycling the same visor-like camera bar for a third cycle, betting that stock Android and a lower price will suffice. They may survive the downturn, but survival is not dominance.
Come autumn, Mountain View will unveil the Pixel 11 Pro under flashing lights. If the leaks hold, the only thing thinner than the phone will be the applause.
