Samsung's galaxy ring 2 reportedly in the works with major upgrades

Samsung's Galaxy Ring, the company's first smart ring, has been out for almost two years, and the last time a sequel was rumored, it was slated for a 2026 launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and other devices. However, new reports indicate that the Galaxy Ring 2 won't arrive until early 2027, likely alongside the Galaxy S27 series.

Improvements abound in the new ring

According to a report by ET News, Samsung is hard at work on the Galaxy Ring 2, aiming to address the first model's shortcomings, including its battery life and sensor accuracy. The new ring is expected to be thinner, lighter, and more comfortable to wear.

One of the key upgrades is an extended battery life. While the original Galaxy Ring could last up to seven days, the Ring 2 may push that to nine or ten days. Additionally, sleep analysis accuracy is set to improve, and the device will provide expanded cardiovascular health tracking insights.

The report also mentions the possibility of improved temperature sensors and non-invasive blood glucose Technology, although the latter feature is far from a certainty, requiring regulatory approval.

A part of a larger health ecosystem

Samsung's strategy for the Galaxy Ring 2 is to integrate it into a comprehensive personal health management platform. This would combine the company's AI capabilities, the Samsung Health app, and its wearables, like the Galaxy Watch.

The Ring 2 would handle sleep tracking and extended health data collection, while the Watch would focus on exercise tracking, notifications, and app features, working in tandem with the ring.

Despite being a niche product, smart rings like the Galaxy Ring 2 offer certain advantages over smartwatches, particularly for simple sleep and health tracking. With its established ecosystem and hardware expertise, Samsung could make the Ring 2 an attractive option even for those who don't typically wear rings.
