Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro Fuels Galaxy S27 Ultra Rumors with Massive Benchmark Score

Samsung is reportedly gearing up for a significant performance boost with the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, potentially powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975) chip. A recent AnTuTu benchmark score of 4,835,412 points, revealed by leaker Digital Chat Station, indicates a substantial 21% improvement over the current record holder, the Red Magic 11 Pro, which utilizes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Significant Performance Leap

The new chip’s GPU test showcased an impressive 1,854,826 points, obliterating the previous high of 1,484,937. This highlights a considerable advancement in graphics processing capabilities. Casual users might not prioritize benchmark scores, but they clearly delineate top-tier smartphones from those offering merely adequate performance.

Samsung’s Strategic Shift

Samsung’s Strategic Shift

Qualcomm is anticipated to divide its flagship lineup this year, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro positioned as a high-end chipset leveraging a cutting-edge 2nm process. The current 8 Elite Gen 5 features two Prime cores at 4.6GHz and six Performance cores at 3.62GHz, while the new iteration is expected to employ a 2+3+3 Oryon core layout with increased clock speeds for enhanced performance. However, rising component costs have forced compromises, with Samsung reportedly considering settling for the standard 8 Elite Gen 6 due to limitations in memory and storage options.

Component Constraints

Component Constraints

Skyrocketing component prices have pressured smartphone manufacturers. Google, for example, reduced RAM on some Pixel 11 models, and Samsung reportedly had to postpone certain S27 Ultra features due to cost concerns. Qualcomm’s increased chip prices, coupled with the 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro’s demand for LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage – technologies potentially omitted from the S27 Ultra – could lead to a downgraded GPU within the standard Elite Gen 6 model. Despite these potential adjustments, the Pro version of the chip is expected to appear in other flagship Android devices, ensuring longevity and smooth performance for years to come.
