Spain's space agency launches hunt for 16 skilled professionals
Madrid – The Agencia Espacial Española (AEE), Spain’s national space agency, has opened applications for 16 permanent positions, signaling a significant expansion of its workforce and a bolstered commitment to national space strategy. The move comes as Spain increasingly seeks to assert its influence within the European space sector.
Rigorous selection process demands technical expertise
Applicants vying for these roles – ranging from Department Heads and Area Managers to technical specialists – will face a rigorous two-phase selection process, a concurso-oposición, weighing evaluations, exercises, and scoring outlined in the official call, which closes on May 5th. The opposition phase, carrying 60% of the total weight, will test candidates’ practical problem-solving abilities, while the concurso phase, comprising the remaining 40%, focuses on demonstrated experience and qualifications.
The initial opposition exercise is designed to be eliminatory, requiring candidates to analyze a case study relevant to their chosen profile, drawn from the program detailed in Annex V. A score of at least 45 out of a possible 90 is needed to advance. Following this, successful applicants will face a second, also eliminatory, written exercise in English, requiring responses to a maximum of five questions assessing their technical proficiency in realistic professional scenarios. A 15-minute English-language interview with the tribunal follows, worth a maximum of 10 points (a minimum of five required), offering the panel a chance to probe candidates’ suitability for the role.

Méritos, or demonstrated experience exceeding the bare minimum requirements, will be highly valued. The tribunal will carefully scrutinize applications to avoid double-counting experience where functions are substantially similar.
