U.S. Launches New Marketplace for Counter-Drone Systems

The United States has established a new, expanded marketplace for counter-drone systems, dubbed cuas.mil, following the success of Ukraine’s Brave1 Market. This initiative aims to streamline the acquisition of these critical technologies for U.S. military and allied forces.

Department of Defense Contracts Kaizen Laboratories

The Department of Defense (DoD) recently awarded Kaizen Laboratories a $15 million contract to develop, build, and operate the unified, bi-directional counter-UAS (C-UAS) marketplace. A limited prototype was initially available in April 2026, but the fully expanded version was formally deployed on August 4, 2026.

Brave1 Market: A Ukrainian Model

Inspired by Ukraine’s Brave1 Market, where military units purchase drones and armed robots, the U.S. marketplace functions as an online catalog accessible to military buyers, law enforcement agencies, and international allies. It validates and allows evaluation of proven counter-drone technologies.

AI-Powered Procurement

The platform leverages artificial intelligence, specifically the ‘Capacity Planner,’ to recommend suitable equipment based on a simple description of the threat by operators and buyers. This feature is expected to be fully operational soon. Furthermore, the marketplace supports the U.S. military’s Foreign Military Sales (FMS) initiative, integrating with existing acquisition pathways to expedite requirements and reduce sales timelines.

Drone Production and Market Dynamics

Ukraine’s drone industry is booming, producing 10 million drones annually and securing $6.5 billion in contracts for 2026. This growth has driven the need for robust counter-drone solutions, leading to the emergence of online drone markets like Brave1 and the new U.S. initiative. As DoD official Nikhil Reddy stated, “For the fight against unmanned aerial systems, the Department of Defense needs first-class digital tools that adapt to the threat environment and don’t fall behind.”
