Windows 11 shows off ai performance metrics

Microsoft's latest Windows 11 beta build is giving users a deeper look into their PC's artificial intelligence capabilities. The revamped Task Manager now includes optional columns tracking NPU (neural processing unit) and GPU AI usage, providing real-time insights into which apps are harnessing this hardware.

This update aims to demystify the often-overlooked AI processing power lurking within modern PCs. Even before the AI boom, graphics cards from Nvidia, like Tensor Cores, have been utilizing AI-enhanced performance.

Now, Windows 11's Task Manager will clearly display AI-intensive application memory allocation and utilization, giving users a comprehensive view of their system's AI activity.

This boon for transparency is especially welcome, as until now, users could only gauge NPU and GPU AI performance through third-party tools, not directly within the operating system.
