Xiaomi's eagerly anticipated foldable phone, its first since the cancelled 2025 model, has been pushed back from a rumored May debut to early July.

The timing is strategic

According to a reliable tipster, the delay is likely due to Samsung planning to unveil its Galaxy Z Fold 8 in late July. By launching its own foldable on July 3, for instance, Xiaomi hopes to get a head start and avoid being overshadowed by its Korean rival.

The upcoming Xiaomi foldable, still lacking an official name but dubbed the 'Xiaomi 17 Fold' by some, will allegedly pack a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, the latest high-end silicon from Qualcomm.

With no detailed specs leaked yet, Xiaomi's foldable will face stiff competition from Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, as well as Apple's long-rumored but still unannounced iPhone Fold. The market for premium foldables remains highly contested, and Xiaomi will need to bring something distinctive to the table to stand out.
